Ponds and water bodies

We use BIOFOX for the biological processing of organic pollutants in water and bottom sediment. Work begins with the causes: where organic matter enters, what has accumulated on the bottom and the condition of the aquatic environment.

How BIOFOX is applied

Excess nutrients encourage the growth of algae and other vegetation. As this biomass dies and decomposes, oxygen is consumed and organic material accumulates. Improving water clarity therefore involves the condition of the entire aquatic environment.

We use BIOFOX to support the breakdown of organic compounds in water and sediment. The programme reflects the actual dimensions of the water body, bottom conditions, pollution inputs and observations. During application, we track clarity, odour, dissolved oxygen and available laboratory measurements.

Conditions that shape the programme

  • Water surface area, average and maximum depth, and bottom sediment thickness.
  • Where water enters and leaves, and the sources of pollution within the catchment.
  • Dissolved oxygen, clarity, odour and initial water analyses.
  • Control of fresh pollution inputs. Treating accumulated organic matter does not remove the need to address continuing pollution.

Three steps to implementation

  1. 01

    Record the initial condition

The questionnaire, photographs and available analyses establish a baseline.

  2. 02

    Receive a programme

The analytical team considers the dimensions, sediment and conditions of the water body.

  3. 03

    Monitor changes

Compare water conditions and monitoring results throughout application.
