Pretreatment with BIOFOX

Across three experimental series, BIOFOX with aeration followed by settling produced the largest reductions in BOD₅ and suspended solids.

Research finding

BOD₅ reduction: 50.7% with the product versus 25.9% with aeration alone. Suspended-solids reduction: 71.9% versus 43.9%, respectively.

2015 laboratory experiment: 1 mg/L, 25–26 °C, six hours of treatment and 30 minutes of settling.

Development of activated-sludge communities

Comparative trials in Husmann rigs tracked changes in activated-sludge species composition with and without BIOFOX.

Research finding

The authors reported a positive effect of BIOFOX on aquatic-organism diversity and a trend towards an improved microbial community as the added suspension volume increased.

Hydrobiological observations in two laboratory rigs. The finding concerns development of the activated-sludge community.

COD reduction in model wastewater

An experiment with model wastewater, activated sludge and aeration compared BIOFOX-treated samples with a control without the product.

Research finding

COD reduction was 88.4–89.7% in the BIOFOX-treated samples and 86.7% in the control. Final COD concentrations were 51.1–56.3 mg/L and 68.4 mg/L, respectively.

Laboratory system with activated sludge and aeration. The percentages show total COD reduction in each sample.

Treatment of livestock by-products

Our customer compared BIOFOX with two other products on livestock by-products and shared the observations with us.

Research finding

For BIOFOX, the customer reported weak odour, no flies, noticeably lower moisture and a crumbly, lumpy material consistency.
